There is

modern shopping centres providing a range of goods from local Thai products to
international designer brand names. Phuket Town
offers a great mixture of new and old influences.
Sino Portuguese architecture is evident as you walk down
the Thalang Road and is home to many cloth merchants, offering
excellent deals on a wide selection of cloth, which the island's tailors will be
happy to convert into the latest fashion. Street vendors can be seen in stalls along the side of the
road in various locations, selling handicrafts, silk scarves, wooden toys
and much more. Great bargains can be found on night markets.
Several galleries/workshops of local and expat artists dot the island,
selling handpainted copies of
great works of
famous international artists and originals of talented local
painters, who are gaining more and more recognition for their
