Much of the island's charm is that the ocean facing west coast is lined with a series of bays where white sand beaches span between rocky points. Here you will find a series of relatively intimate places rather than one big unbroken stretch of sand lined with high rise hotels and packed with people. Each beach has its own character. Larger beach resorts like Patong, really come to life at night. While others offer quiet havens away from the crowds. In between, there are places like Kamala - only 15 minutes by car from Patong, yet far enough for some peaceful relaxation.
